Ingredients
Scale
- 60 saltine crackers (1 1/2 sleeves)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Prepare baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with foil, covering the bottom and sides completely.
- Arrange crackers: Place saltine crackers on the foil, breaking them into smaller pieces if needed to fill the edges.
- Make caramel: In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Stir in brown sugar and cook for 3 minutes, stirring until sugar is dissolved and the mixture boils.
- Pour caramel: Slowly pour the butter mixture over the crackers, using a rubber spatula to ensure even coverage.
- Bake: Bake for 5 minutes.
- Add chocolate: Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the crackers. Let the chocolate soften and melt for 2-3 minutes. If needed, pop the baking sheet back into the warm oven for a couple of minutes.
- Spread chocolate: Use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crackers.
- Add sprinkles: Add sprinkles if desired.
- Cool: Allow toffee to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
