Description

Indulge in this velvety smooth and rich Classic Creamy Chocolate Mousse, the perfect dessert for your romantic Valentine’s Day dinner! It’s simple to make and decadently delicious, with just the right amount of chocolate flavor to impress your loved one.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chocolate Mousse:

  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, chilled
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (for whipped topping)

For Garnish (optional):

  • Fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, or cherries)
  • Shaved chocolate or chocolate curls
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Melt the Chocolate:
    • In a heatproof bowl, melt the chopped semi-sweet chocolate and butter together. You can use a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring until smooth and fully melted. Let it cool slightly.
  2. Make the Whipped Cream:
    • In a separate chilled bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Egg Yolks:
    • In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolks until they become pale and slightly thickened.
  4. Combine the Mixtures:
    • Gradually add a small amount of the melted chocolate to the egg yolks to temper them (to avoid scrambling). Once tempered, slowly whisk in the rest of the melted chocolate until fully combined.
    • Gently fold in the whipped cream until the mousse mixture is smooth and fluffy.
  5. Chill the Mousse:
    • Spoon the mousse into individual serving cups or glasses. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set and chill.
  6. Garnish and Serve:
    • Before serving, garnish the mousse with fresh berries, chocolate curls, or a dollop of whipped cream for extra flair.

Notes

  • If you’re concerned about using raw eggs, you can use pasteurized eggs or egg substitutes.
  • The mousse can be made up to 1 day ahead and kept in the refrigerator. Just cover it with plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out.
  • For a richer flavor, you can substitute part of the semi-sweet chocolate with dark chocolate.
