Description

A hearty and delicious classic patty melt featuring juicy beef patties, melted cheese, and a zesty sauce, all grilled to perfection between slices of rye bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ¾ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp real bacon bits
  • 1 tsp sweet relish
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese

Instructions

  • Prepare Bread: Butter one side of each slice of bread and set aside.
  • Make Patties: In a bowl, mix ground beef, pepper, salt, and onion powder until combined. Shape into three patties that match the shape of the bread.
  • Cook Patties: Preheat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each patty for 2-3 minutes per side, then reduce heat to low and cook an additional 5 minutes until no pink remains and internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  • Make Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayo, ketchup, bacon bits, relish, and sugar. Mix well and set aside.
  • Assemble Patty Melts: Heat a second skillet over medium-low heat. Place a slice of bread (butter-side down) in the skillet, then add 2 slices of cheddar cheese, a patty, and 2 slices of Provolone. Spread the sauce on the unbuttered side of a second slice of bread and place it sauce-side down on top of the Provolone.
  • Grill Sandwiches: Cook each sandwich for 2-3 minutes per side until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted. Repeat for all patty melts.
  • Serve: Remove from heat, serve warm, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Ensure the patties are shaped to fit the bread for even cooking.
  • Feel free to adjust the type of cheese according to your preference.
