Ingredients
For the chicken filling:
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
For the slaw:
- 1 cup shredded cabbage (green or red)
- 1/2 cup shredded carrots
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the wonton tacos:
- 12–16 wonton wrappers
- Vegetable oil for frying
For the sauce:
- 3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
Instructions
- Cook the Chicken:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Season chicken breasts or thighs with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook the chicken in the skillet for 6-7 minutes on each side or until fully cooked and golden brown. Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes. Shred the chicken using two forks and set aside. - Make the Slaw:
In a bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, carrots, and chopped green onions. In a separate smaller bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, rice vinegar, honey, salt, and pepper. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to combine. Set aside. - Prepare the Wonton Shells:
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place wonton wrappers into the oil, folding them into taco shapes. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. - Make the Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix together the sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, and lime juice. Stir until well combined. - Assemble the Tacos:
Once the wonton shells have cooled slightly, fill each shell with shredded chicken, top with slaw, and drizzle with the sweet chili sauce mixture. - Serve:
Serve the tacos immediately, garnished with extra green onions or cilantro if desired.
Notes
- You can also use ground chicken or turkey as a substitute for shredded chicken.
- For added crunch, garnish the tacos with toasted sesame seeds or crushed peanuts.
- To make this recipe ahead of time, cook the chicken and prepare the slaw, but fry the wonton wrappers just before serving.
