Description

This Copycat Five Guys Double Patty Melt stacks two juicy beef patties with caramelized onions, melted American cheese, and tangy mayo between buttery grilled bread. 


Ingredients

For the Patties:

  • 1 lb 80/20 ground beef (divided into 4 thin 4oz patties)

  • 1 tsp kosher salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

For the Sandwich:

  • 8 slices white bread (Texas toast style)

  • 4 tbsp softened butter (divided)

  • 4 slices American cheese

  • 4 slices Swiss cheese

  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tbsp ketchup

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika


Instructions

  1. Caramelize Onions: Cook onions in olive oil over low heat 25-30 mins until golden brown. Set aside.

  2. Form Patties: Season beef with salt, pepper & garlic powder. Shape into 4 thin patties (1/4″ thick).

  3. Cook Burgers: Sear patties in skillet over high heat 2 mins per side (medium-rare).

  4. Make Sauce: Mix mayo, ketchup and smoked paprika.

  5. Assemble: Butter one side of each bread slice. Layer (buttered side out): bread, American cheese, 2 patties, onions, Swiss cheese, bread.

  6. Grill: Cook sandwiches in skillet over medium heat 3-4 mins per side until golden and cheese melts.

Notes

  • Five Guys Touch: Add extra patties for “Little” or “Regular” style

  • Crisper Bread: Use sourdough instead of white
