Description

A delicious and easy-to-make sandwich using sourdough bread and a blend of cheeses, perfect for breakfast or lunch. Enjoy it crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of sourdough bread
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened for spreading)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese (shredded)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional add-ins: tomato slices, bacon, or pesto

Instructions

  • Prepare the Sandwich: Lay out the sourdough bread slices on a clean surface. Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice. In a bowl, combine the cheddar, mozzarella, and Gruyère cheeses. On the unbuttered side of half the bread slices, sprinkle the cheese mixture evenly. Add optional extras like tomato slices or bacon over the cheese if desired.
  • Grill the Sandwich: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the buttered side of the bread face down in the skillet. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up. Cook for 3-5 minutes on each side, pressing down lightly with a spatula to help the cheese melt and create a crispy, golden crust. Cover the pan for a minute if needed to allow the cheese to melt fully.
  • Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet once the bread is golden and the cheese is fully melted. Slice in half and serve immediately. Enjoy with a side of tomato soup or a fresh salad for a complete meal!

Notes

  • Low and Slow: Cooking on medium-low heat helps prevent burning while giving the cheese time to melt.
  • Butter Generously: Use plenty of butter on the outside of the bread for an extra crispy sandwich.
  • Customize: Feel free to add your favorite ingredients like bacon, avocado, or caramelized onions for a personal twist.
