Description

Cornmeal Onion Patties are crispy, golden fried onion fritters made by coating sweet onion slices in a seasoned cornmeal batter and frying until crunchy and delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, sliced into rings
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Separate onion rings carefully.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg until combined.
  4. Dip onion rings into the wet mixture, then coat with the cornmeal mixture.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Fry onion rings in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes per side.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.

Notes

  • Double coat the rings for extra crunch.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or spicy mayo.
