Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cotton candy flavoring (or cotton candy extract)
- 1/2 cup cotton candy sprinkles or pastel sprinkles (optional, for added fun)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugars:
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add Egg and Flavoring:
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until combined. Stir in the cotton candy flavoring (or cotton candy extract) to give the cookies their signature sweet taste.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Shape the Dough:
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Flatten the Cookies (Optional):
- If you prefer thinner cookies, gently press down on the dough balls with the back of a spoon or your fingers to flatten them slightly.
- Bake the Cookies:
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are set. The cookies will continue to firm up as they cool.
- Cool and Garnish:
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. For extra fun, sprinkle some cotton candy sprinkles or pastel-colored sprinkles on top of the cookies while they are still warm.
Notes
- Cotton Candy Flavor: If you don’t have cotton candy flavoring, you can use cotton candy extract, which is available in many baking stores or online.
- Storage: Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. These cookies also freeze well, so you can keep a batch in the freezer for later enjoyment.
- Add a Twist: For a different take, you can add a handful of mini chocolate chips or chopped cotton candy to the dough for added texture and flavor.
