Description
This cracker candy is an irresistible combination of salty crackers, buttery caramel, and smooth chocolate. Easy to make and completely addictive, it’s perfect for parties, movie nights, or a quick snack. Whether you’re craving something sweet or salty, this treat hits all the right notes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tube saltines (about 40 crackers)
- 1 cup butter (225 g), 2 sticks (either salted or unsalted, but not margarine)
- 1 ⅛ cups brown sugar (245 g), firmly packed (light brown sugar is preferred)
- 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup chopped pecans (60 g), toasted, or toasted chopped almonds
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a cookie sheet with foil and spray it with non-stick cooking spray. Lay the saltine crackers end to end on the sheet, breaking them as needed to fit the size of the sheet.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, add the brown sugar and increase the heat to medium. Stir continuously until the mixture reaches a boil. Let it boil for 3 minutes—set a timer.
- Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the crackers. Work quickly to spread it out, ensuring all crackers are covered.
- Place the sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes.
- Remove from the oven, then pour the chocolate chips over the caramel. Cover the pan with a sheet of foil and let the chocolate chips melt for 3 minutes.
- After 3 minutes, remove the foil and spread the melted chocolate evenly across the top.
- Sprinkle the toasted chopped pecans (or almonds) over the melted chocolate.
- Cover the pan with foil again and refrigerate until the candy sets (about 1-2 hours).
- Once set, break the candy into pieces and enjoy! (The candy can also be frozen for longer storage.)
Notes
- For best results, use real butter (either salted or unsalted) and avoid margarine.
- This recipe can be made with different types of crackers, like Ritz or graham crackers, if you prefer.
- You can substitute the pecans with other nuts, such as walnuts or almonds.
- The cracker candy can be stored at room temperature for up to a week, or in the fridge for longer freshness.
- It also freezes well for up to 3 months.
