Description

Delight in these flaky and delicious Danish pastries filled with creamy cheese and sweet berry preserves, perfect for brunch or a delightful dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Danish Pastries:

  • 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ⅓ cup berry preserves (strawberry, raspberry, or your favorite)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

For Garnish:

  • Fresh berries (optional)
  • Additional powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4-6 squares, depending on your preferred size.
  3. Assemble the Danish: Place about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square. Add a teaspoon of berry preserves on top of the cream cheese mixture. Fold the edges of the pastry slightly towards the center to create a border around the filling. In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush the egg wash over the edges of the pastry for a golden finish.
  4. Bake the Pastries: Transfer the pastries to the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown. Remove from the oven and let the pastries cool slightly on a wire rack.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Dust the cooled pastries with powdered sugar for an elegant finish. Optionally, top with fresh berries for extra flavor and decoration.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is fully thawed for easier handling.
  • You can use any berry preserves you like; feel free to mix flavors for variety.
