Description

A classic comfort food, creamed chipped beef served on toast is a nostalgic dish that’s creamy, savory, and satisfying. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a quick meal anytime.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz jar of dried chipped beef, sliced into strips

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups whole milk (or half-and-half for a creamier version)

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp salt (to taste)

  • 4 slices of white or whole wheat bread, toasted

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chipped Beef: Rinse the chipped beef under cold water to remove excess salt (optional). Pat it dry with paper towels and slice it into thin strips.

  2. Make the Cream Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.

  3. Add the Milk: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to cook and whisk until the mixture thickens, about 4-5 minutes.

  4. Add Seasonings: Stir in the garlic powder (if using), black pepper, and salt. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

  5. Combine with Chipped Beef: Add the chipped beef strips to the sauce and stir until well coated. Allow the beef to heat through for about 2-3 minutes.

  6. Serve: Spoon the creamed chipped beef mixture over the toasted bread slices. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a richer dish, you can use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of whole milk.

  • You can also add a sprinkle of grated cheese on top for an extra creamy touch.

  • This dish pairs well with scrambled eggs or a side of fresh fruit for a more balanced meal.
