Description
A classic comfort food, creamed chipped beef served on toast is a nostalgic dish that’s creamy, savory, and satisfying. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a quick meal anytime.
Ingredients
-
8 oz jar of dried chipped beef, sliced into strips
-
2 tbsp butter
-
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
-
2 cups whole milk (or half-and-half for a creamier version)
-
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
-
1/4 tsp black pepper
-
1/4 tsp salt (to taste)
-
4 slices of white or whole wheat bread, toasted
-
Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Chipped Beef: Rinse the chipped beef under cold water to remove excess salt (optional). Pat it dry with paper towels and slice it into thin strips.
-
Make the Cream Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
-
Add the Milk: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to cook and whisk until the mixture thickens, about 4-5 minutes.
-
Add Seasonings: Stir in the garlic powder (if using), black pepper, and salt. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
-
Combine with Chipped Beef: Add the chipped beef strips to the sauce and stir until well coated. Allow the beef to heat through for about 2-3 minutes.
-
Serve: Spoon the creamed chipped beef mixture over the toasted bread slices. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve immediately.
Notes
-
For a richer dish, you can use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of whole milk.
-
You can also add a sprinkle of grated cheese on top for an extra creamy touch.
-
This dish pairs well with scrambled eggs or a side of fresh fruit for a more balanced meal.
