This creamy beef and mushroom macaroni is a comforting, hearty dish that’s perfect for family dinners. With tender elbow macaroni enveloped in a rich cheese sauce, seasoned ground beef, and savory mushrooms, it’s sure to become a favorite!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Macaroni:

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • Salt (for boiling water)

For the Beef and Mushroom Mixture:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Creamy Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Cooking the Pasta: Boil salted water in a large pot. Add elbow macaroni and cook until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Preparing the Beef and Mushroom Mixture: In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Add diced onion and minced garlic; sauté until onion is translucent (2-3 minutes). Stir in sliced mushrooms, thyme, salt, and pepper; cook until mushrooms soften (about 5 minutes).
  • Making the Creamy Sauce: In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour, stirring for 1-2 minutes to form a paste. Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until the mixture thickens (about 5 minutes). Stir in cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, and Worcestershire sauce until the cheese melts and the sauce is creamy.
  • Combining Everything: Pour the creamy sauce over the beef and mushroom mixture, then add the cooked macaroni. Stir until everything is well combined.
  • Serving: Serve hot, garnished with extra cheese or fresh herbs, if desired. Pairs well with a side salad or garlic bread.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
  • You can use any pasta shape you prefer.
