Description

Creamy Frozen Chocolate Ice Cream is a rich and decadent homemade dessert that’s smooth, indulgent, and packed with deep chocolate flavor. Perfect for hot days or when you’re craving a classic frozen treat made from scratch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  2. Stir in the milk and place over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture is hot and the cocoa and sugar are fully dissolved (do not boil).
  3. Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.
  5. Cover and chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2–4 hours, or overnight for best results.
  6. Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (typically 20–25 minutes).
  7. Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 2 hours to firm up before serving.
  8. Scoop and enjoy your creamy homemade chocolate ice cream!

Notes

  • For extra richness, you can use all heavy cream (no milk), but the texture will be denser.
  • Add mix-ins like chocolate chips, crushed cookies, or swirls of caramel during the last few minutes of churning.
  • If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can freeze the mixture in a shallow dish, stirring every 30–60 minutes until it reaches the desired consistency (about 4 hours).
