Description

A comforting and hearty casserole featuring savory sausage, tender potatoes, and a creamy sauce baked to golden perfection.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb sausage (Italian or breakfast sausage), casing removed
  • 4 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned, breaking into small pieces.
  3. Add onion and garlic; sauté until soft, about 3 minutes.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
  5. Spread cooked sausage mixture evenly over potatoes.
  6. Top with remaining potatoes.
  7. Pour heavy cream over the layers and sprinkle thyme, salt, and pepper.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
  10. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use turkey sausage for a leaner version.
  • Add chopped bell peppers or spinach for extra veggies.
  • Make ahead and refrigerate; bake when ready to serve.
