- 1 lb sausage (Italian or breakfast sausage), casing removed
- 4 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned, breaking into small pieces.
- Add onion and garlic; sauté until soft, about 3 minutes.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
- Spread cooked sausage mixture evenly over potatoes.
- Top with remaining potatoes.
- Pour heavy cream over the layers and sprinkle thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
- Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- Use turkey sausage for a leaner version.
- Add chopped bell peppers or spinach for extra veggies.
- Make ahead and refrigerate; bake when ready to serve.
