Description

Creole Butter is a rich and flavorful compound butter with a spicy, savory kick. Made with Creole seasoning, garlic, lemon juice, and herbs, this butter is perfect for basting grilled seafood, chicken, or vegetables. It also works wonderfully as a dipping sauce or topping for grilled meats. The blend of spices adds depth and complexity to any dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Creole seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter with the Creole seasoning, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Mix the ingredients together until the butter is smooth and evenly seasoned. You can use a fork or spoon to combine the ingredients well.
  3. Once the butter is mixed, fold in the freshly chopped parsley and chives (if using) for added color and freshness.
  4. Transfer the Creole butter to a sheet of parchment paper or plastic wrap. Roll it into a log shape and twist the ends to seal. Alternatively, you can store the butter in a small container with a lid.
  5. Refrigerate the Creole butter for at least 1 hour before using to allow the flavors to meld. The butter can be kept in the fridge for up to a week, or frozen for up to 3 months.
  6. Use the Creole butter to baste grilled seafood, chicken, or vegetables, or simply serve it as a topping for your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper based on your desired level of spiciness.
  • This Creole butter can also be used as a dip for bread or seafood like shrimp and crab.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, you can melt the butter and mix the ingredients, then allow it to solidify again in the fridge.
  • If you don’t have fresh herbs on hand, dried parsley or chives can also be used, but fresh herbs will provide a brighter flavor.
