Description

A deliciously crispy, cheesy, and creamy tuna melt sandwich perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. This comfort food classic combines flaky tuna with melty cheese and a creamy filling, grilled to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices sourdough or rye bread
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together the tuna, mayonnaise, mustard, red onion, celery, and parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Lay out the bread slices on a clean surface. Spread the tuna mixture evenly over two slices of bread.
  3. Top each with two slices of cheddar cheese, then place the remaining bread slices on top to form sandwiches.
  4. Spread the softened butter on the outside of each sandwich slice.
  5. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place sandwiches in the skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Remove from skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a slice of tomato or a few pickles before grilling.
  • You can substitute cheddar with Swiss or provolone cheese.
  • Use whole grain bread for a healthier alternative.
