- 1 lb fresh okra, washed and sliced lengthwise
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- Cooking oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
- In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Dip okra slices in beaten eggs, then coat with the cornmeal mixture.
- Carefully fry okra in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- For a healthier version, bake the coated okra at 425ยฐF (220ยฐC) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Adjust seasoning to taste; add cayenne pepper for heat.
- Serve with ranch or spicy aioli dip.
