Description

These Crispy Onion Rings are perfectly battered and fried to golden perfection, making them a delightful appetizer or snack. Serve them warm with your favorite dipping sauce for an irresistible crunch!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt, plus extra for seasoning
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup regular breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: black pepper, paprika, or garlic powder for extra seasoning

Instructions

  • Prepare Onions: Peel the onions and slice them into ¼-inch thick rings. Separate each ring and set aside.
  • Prepare Breading Stations:
    • In one bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • In a second bowl, whisk together egg and buttermilk.
    • In a third bowl, mix Panko and regular breadcrumbs (add optional seasonings if desired).
  • Coat Onion Rings: Dip each onion ring in the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, pressing to help the crumbs stick. Place coated rings on a plate.
  • Heat Oil: In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry Onion Rings: Fry a few rings at a time (don’t overcrowd) for 2-3 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Serve: Season with extra salt if desired. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Adjust the seasoning to your taste by adding more spices to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to prevent soggy rings.
