Description

Deliciously crispy onion strings that are perfect as a crunchy topping for burgers, salads, or simply enjoyed as a snack. These golden-fried onions are easy to make and add a delightful crunch to any dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  • Place the sliced onions in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Let them soak for 30 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • Drain the onions from the buttermilk, then dredge them in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
  • Fry the coated onions in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  • Remove from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Serve hot as a crunchy topping or snack.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve maximum crispiness.
  • Adjust the seasoning in the flour mixture to suit your taste.
