Description

This Crock Pot Philly Cheesesteak is a slow-cooked, tender, and juicy beef sandwich with all the delicious flavors of a classic Philly Cheesesteak. The beef cooks to perfection, soaking up all the savory seasonings and juices, and is then piled onto soft hoagie rolls, topped with melted cheese. A simple and hands-off way to enjoy a Philly classic right at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs flank steak or ribeye, thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 large bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 8 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (or American cheese)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced flank steak (or ribeye) and sear it for 2-3 minutes until browned. You can do this in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
  2. Transfer the seared steak to the Crock Pot. Add the sliced onion, bell pepper (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir everything to combine, then cover the Crock Pot with the lid.
  4. Cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the meat is tender and fully cooked.
  5. Once cooked, use tongs to stir and break up the meat into bite-sized pieces. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  6. To assemble, scoop some of the meat mixture onto a hoagie roll and top with a slice of cheese. You can melt the cheese under the broiler or in the microwave, if desired.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy your Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches!

Notes

  • If you prefer a cheesier sandwich, add more slices of cheese or even some shredded cheese on top.
  • You can also sauté the onions and peppers beforehand for extra flavor, but cooking them in the Crock Pot with the beef will also give a nice, tender result.
  • For a spicy twist, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the mix.
  • Leftovers store well in the fridge and can be reheated for another meal or used in a wrap.
