Description

These adorable heart-shaped cinnamon rolls are the perfect Valentine’s Day treat! Fluffy, buttery dough filled with cinnamon sugar, rolled into a heart shape, and topped with a sweet glaze. They’re as cute as they are delicious!

Ingredients

Scale

For the dough:

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for rolling)

For the filling:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast:
In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.
  2. Make the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, vanilla extract, salt, and eggs. Add the frothy yeast mixture and stir to combine. Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time, and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the filling:
In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt to form a spreadable paste.
  5. Roll out the dough:
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll the dough into a large rectangle (about 16×12 inches).
  6. Add the filling:
Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  7. Form the heart shapes:
Starting from one long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 even slices. To form the heart shape, take each slice and pinch the sides together to form a point at the bottom of the heart. Gently shape the sides to create the heart shape.
  8. Bake the cinnamon rolls:
Place the shaped rolls onto a greased or parchment-lined baking dish, arranging them close together. Cover and let them rise for 20-30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the rolls have risen, bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Make the glaze:
While the rolls are baking, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Add more milk if needed to reach a drizzly consistency.
  10. Glaze the rolls:
Once the cinnamon rolls are done baking, let them cool for a few minutes before drizzling the glaze over the warm rolls.
  11. Serve and enjoy:
Serve the heart-shaped cinnamon rolls warm with a cup of coffee or milk, and enjoy these sweet Valentine’s Day treats!

Notes

  1. You can make the dough the night before and refrigerate it overnight for a quicker breakfast the next day. Just let the rolls come to room temperature and rise before baking.
  2. For extra sweetness, you can add a cream cheese frosting on top of the glaze.
