- 1 box (18.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix
- 1 box (3 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 (8-ounce) package of cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (12-ounce) can of cherry pie filling
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, instant pudding mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat until smooth.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Stir in vanilla.
- Spread the cheesecake mixture over the cooled cake layer.
- Top with cherry pie filling, chocolate chips, and walnuts, if desired.
- Pour the remaining cake batter over the cheesecake layer and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes.
- Let the cake cool completely in the pan before serving.
Notes
- Can be made gluten-free with a gluten-free chocolate cake mix.
- Substitute cherry pie filling with other fruit fillings for a different flavor.
