Ingredients
Scale
For the Waffles:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground ginger
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1¾ cups buttermilk
- ½ cup molasses
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 2 large eggs
For the Orange Syrup:
- 1 cup orange juice
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
Instructions
- Preheat Waffle Iron: Preheat your waffle iron according to its manufacturer’s instructions.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, molasses, melted butter, and eggs until well combined.
- Make the Batter: Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined, but don’t overmix.
- Cook the Waffles: Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining batter.
- Prepare the Orange Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine orange juice and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. In a separate cup, mix cornstarch with a bit of cold water to create a slurry, then stir it into the orange juice mixture. Bring to a simmer and cook until the syrup thickens.
