Description

These legendary DoubleTree Cookies are known for their chewy texture, crunchy walnuts, and rich chocolate chips. A hotel favorite you can now make at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 2 2/3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 3/4 cups chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a stand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs, vanilla, and lemon juice. Mix on low speed for 30 seconds, then medium speed for about 2 minutes, until light and fluffy.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, oats, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts by hand using a spatula.
  7. Portion the dough with a cookie scoop (about 3 tablespoons per cookie) and place on the baking sheet spaced 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 20–23 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is still soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for about 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • DoubleTree cookies can be frozen before or after baking. Freeze pre-scooped dough balls and bake from frozen, adding 2–3 minutes to the baking time.
  • Let cookies rest on the pan to continue baking and setting without overbaking.
  • Use quality chocolate chips for the best results—semi-sweet is traditional, but milk or dark work too.
