Description

These rich and creamy chocolate truffles have a delightful citrus twist with the fresh taste of orange zest. Perfect for gifting or indulging in a sweet treat yourself!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped (or chocolate chips)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp orange zest (freshly grated)
  • 2 tbsp orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
  • Optional toppings: cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or orange sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Chop the chocolate into small pieces and place it in a heatproof bowl.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream and butter over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture begins to simmer. Do not let it come to a full boil.
  3. Pour the hot cream mixture over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to melt the chocolate.
  4. After the chocolate has melted, stir the mixture until smooth. Add the orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla extract, and stir to combine.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the ganache for at least 2 hours or until firm enough to roll into balls.
  6. Once the ganache is chilled, scoop out small portions using a spoon or melon baller and roll them into balls.
  7. Roll the truffles in powdered sugar or your desired toppings, like cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or even a pinch of orange zest for extra flavor.
  8. Place the truffles on a parchment-lined baking sheet or plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.
  9. Once set, the truffles are ready to enjoy! Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Notes

  • For a stronger orange flavor, you can add a few extra drops of orange extract.
  • If you prefer dark chocolate, you can use that instead of semi-sweet chocolate.
  • You can also dip the truffles in melted chocolate for a smooth outer shell before rolling them in powdered sugar.
