Description

Creamy and flavorful, these Easy Garlic Mashed Potatoes are made with Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, roasted garlic, butter, and cream. They are the perfect side dish for any meal, combining simplicity with delicious taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs (about 45 medium) Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 45 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk for a lighter option)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley or chives, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Cook the Potatoes and Garlic:
    • Place the potato chunks and garlic cloves in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt to the water.
    • Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  • Drain and Mash:
    • Drain the potatoes and garlic well, then return them to the pot. Let them sit for a minute to evaporate excess moisture.
    • Use a potato masher or ricer to mash the potatoes and garlic until smooth.
  • Add Butter and Cream:
    • Slowly stir in the melted butter, followed by the heavy cream (or milk), until the potatoes reach your desired level of creaminess.
    • Season generously with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Serve:
    • Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and garnish with chopped parsley or chives if desired.
    • Serve warm alongside your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • For extra garlic flavor, roast the garlic before mashing. Wrap garlic cloves in foil, roast at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes, and squeeze out the softened garlic before mixing it in.
  • You can use other types of potatoes, but Yukon Golds are preferred for their creamy texture.
