Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)
For the Gravy:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, but don’t overwork the meat.
- Shape the beef mixture into 4-6 oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties to the pan and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- For the gravy, melt the butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly to form a roux.
- Gradually add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Whisk continuously until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes, allowing the patties to soak up the gravy and become tender.
- Serve the Salisbury steaks with the gravy poured over the top, along with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dish. Enjoy!
Notes
- You can make the patties ahead of time and refrigerate them until ready to cook.
- For a richer gravy, you can add a splash of heavy cream or sour cream.
- If you prefer a thicker gravy, increase the amount of flour slightly or reduce the broth a little while cooking.
- Add sautéed mushrooms to the gravy for extra flavor.
