Made with canned tuna, creamy sauce, and pasta, all baked together with a golden, crispy topping, this casserole is a family favorite! It’s hearty, satisfying, and easy to make, with minimal ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water or oil, drained and flaked

  • 3 cups cooked elbow macaroni or egg noodles (about 1 1/2 cups uncooked pasta)

  • 1 cup frozen peas

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional for extra cheesiness)

  • 1/2 cup crushed potato chips or breadcrumbs (for topping)

  • 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the casserole dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

    2. Prepare the Pasta:

    • Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

    3. Make the Tuna Casserole Mixture:

    • In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, cooked pasta, frozen peas, cream of mushroom soup, milk, mayonnaise, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir until everything is well mixed.

    • (Optional: Add 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese into the mixture for an extra creamy and cheesy casserole.)

    4. Assemble the Casserole:

    • Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with butter.

    • Pour the tuna and pasta mixture into the casserole dish and spread it out evenly.

    5. Add the Topping:

    • Sprinkle the crushed potato chips or breadcrumbs over the top of the casserole for a crispy topping.

    • If you’re using cheese, sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese on top of the casserole.

    6. Bake the Casserole:

    • Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

    7. Serve:

    • Let the casserole sit for a few minutes to cool before serving. Enjoy your easy and comforting tuna casserole!

Notes

  • You can swap out the cream of mushroom soup for cream of celery soup or cream of chicken soup, depending on your preference.

  • If you don’t like peas, feel free to use other vegetables such as corn or carrots.

  • For a lighter version, use low-fat mayonnaise and reduced-fat cheese.

  • To add extra flavor, you can add a pinch of dried thyme or parsley to the casserole mixture.
