Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownies:

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup (45g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

For the Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven: Set the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Combine wet ingredients: In a mixing bowl, mix the melted butter and cocoa powder together. Add the granulated sugar and eggs, stirring well to combine.
  • Add dry ingredients: Stir in the vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined.
  • Bake: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Make frosting: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the cocoa powder, followed by the milk and vanilla extract. Gradually whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • Frost brownies: Once the brownies are completely cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top.

Notes

  • Let the brownies cool completely before frosting for the best texture.
  • For an extra chocolatey kick, add chocolate chips to the brownie batter.
