Description

This Fig, Goat Cheese & Pistachio Wreath is a stunning and delicious appetizer that will be the star of your holiday table or any special occasion. Creamy goat cheese is paired with sweet, jammy figs and crunchy pistachios, all wrapped in a buttery puff pastry wreath. It’s an elegant yet easy-to-make dish that’s perfect for entertaining!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed, if frozen)
  • 4 oz goat cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or crème fraîche
  • 1/2 cup dried figs, chopped
  • 1/4 cup pistachios, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for drizzling)
  • Fresh rosemary for garnish (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Goat Cheese Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the softened goat cheese with the heavy cream (or crème fraîche). Mix until smooth and creamy. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unroll the puff pastry sheet on the prepared baking sheet. Using a rolling pin, slightly roll out the pastry to smooth any creases and to ensure it’s large enough to create a wreath.
  4. Assemble the Wreath: Spread the goat cheese mixture evenly on the center of the puff pastry, leaving about a 2-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle the chopped figs and pistachios on top of the goat cheese mixture.
  5. Form the Wreath: Carefully cut slits around the edge of the pastry (about 1-2 inches wide) to form strips. Then, fold the strips of pastry over the filling, overlapping them to create a wreath shape. Tuck the ends of the strips underneath to secure the wreath.
  6. Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the exposed pastry to give it a golden, glossy finish.
  7. Bake: Bake the wreath in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is golden and puffed up.
  8. Serve: Let the wreath cool for a few minutes before drizzling with honey, if desired. Garnish with fresh rosemary for a festive touch. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a variation, you can use other nuts like walnuts or almonds if you don’t have pistachios.
  • The honey drizzle adds a touch of sweetness that complements the figs and goat cheese. You can skip this step if you prefer a more savory flavor.
  • If you want a more decadent version, add some prosciutto or bacon to the filling.
  • You can also use fresh figs if available, but dried figs provide a more concentrated sweetness.
