Description

Florida Shrimp Pie is a flavorful and creamy seafood dish featuring succulent shrimp in a buttery, rich filling. This savory pie combines the delicate taste of shrimp with a buttery, flaky crust, making it a perfect dish for special occasions or a delightful dinner. Packed with bold flavors and a hint of citrus, this pie offers a taste of Florida in every bite!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp:
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until pink and fully cooked. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  2. Cook the Vegetables:
In the same skillet, add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper (if using). Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.

  3. Make the Filling:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, eggs, mayonnaise, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Once the shrimp has cooled, chop them into bite-sized pieces and add them to the mixture along with the sautéed vegetables. Stir to combine.

  4. Assemble the Pie:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Pour the shrimp filling into the prepared crust and spread it evenly. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top for extra flavor.

  5. Bake:
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the filling is set, the edges of the crust are golden, and the top is lightly browned.

  6. Garnish and Serve:
Once the pie is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can add a little bit of lemon zest to the filling for extra citrus flavor.
  • For a spicier twist, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce to the filling.
  • If you want a more decadent version, try adding a little grated Parmesan cheese to the filling along with the cheddar.
  • You can substitute shrimp with other seafood like crab or scallops, if preferred.
