These Fluffy Cinnamon-Walnut Rolls are the ultimate indulgence! Soft, buttery rolls with a perfect cinnamon-sugar swirl, topped with a luscious cream cheese frosting that melts in your mouth. Perfect for brunch or a special treat!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Filling:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, cinnamon, salt, and egg. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir to combine and knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Shape the dough into a ball, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts (if using).
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle (about 16×12 inches).
  6. Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  7. Starting from one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the seam to seal.
  8. Cut the roll into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  9. Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise for 30-45 minutes, or until puffed up.
  10. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting: While the rolls are baking, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Continue beating until fluffy and well combined.
  12. Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before frosting with the cream cheese mixture.
  13. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • These rolls are best served warm, but they can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 days or frozen for longer storage.
  • Feel free to skip the walnuts or replace them with other nuts like pecans if you prefer.
  • If you want extra gooey rolls, you can add a layer of cinnamon sugar to the middle of the dough before rolling it up.
