Description

French Dip Biscuits are a savory, comforting dish that combines the flavors of a classic French dip sandwich with the ease of biscuit dough. Ground beef is cooked with beef consommé and Worcestershire sauce, then encased in flaky biscuit dough and topped with Swiss cheese. These biscuits are baked until golden and served warm with au jus for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Mixture:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) beef consommé
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Biscuits:

  • 1 can (8 ct.) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

For the Au Jus:

  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix (prepared according to package instructions)

For Assembly:

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat. Stir in the beef consommé, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Prepare Biscuits: Flatten each biscuit from the can and place on a baking sheet. Spoon some of the beef mixture onto each biscuit and top with shredded Swiss cheese. Fold the biscuit dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
  • Bake: Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
  • Serve: Prepare the au jus gravy mix as per the package instructions. Serve the biscuits warm with the au jus for dipping.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a high-quality beef consommé.
  • If you prefer, you can make your own au jus from scratch instead of using a mix.
