Description

These French Dip Squares are a delicious and convenient twist on the traditional French dip sandwich. Made with tender roast beef, melty cheese, and savory seasonings, all baked together in a golden, flaky crescent dough, this dish is perfect for a family meal or party appetizer. Dip in au jus for that authentic French dip experience!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent dough
  • 1 lb (450g) thinly sliced roast beef (deli-style)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup au jus (for dipping)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Unroll one can of crescent dough and lay it in the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, pressing it to cover the entire bottom.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Spread the mayonnaise mixture evenly over the crescent dough in the baking dish.
  5. Layer the sliced roast beef on top of the sauce, followed by the shredded mozzarella and Swiss cheese.
  6. Unroll the second can of crescent dough and lay it over the top of the beef and cheese, pressing down the edges to seal.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing into squares.
  9. Serve with warm au jus for dipping and garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add sautéed onions or mushrooms to the filling.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, consider adding some horseradish to the mayonnaise mixture.
  • You can use leftover roast beef or cooked beef from a roast for this recipe.
