For the Sandwich:
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 large hoagie or baguette rolls
- 1 cup grilled mushrooms, sliced
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Onions:
In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until caramelized (about 20-25 minutes). Add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, and cook for another 5 minutes until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper. - Prepare the Steak:
Season the sliced steak with salt and pepper. In another skillet over high heat, sear the steak slices for about 2-3 minutes until browned but still tender. Remove from heat. - Grill the Mushrooms:
In the same skillet, add a little olive oil if needed and sauté the sliced mushrooms until they are golden brown (about 5-7 minutes). Season with salt and pepper. - Assemble the Sandwiches:
Slice the hoagie rolls in half and lightly toast them if desired. Layer the seared steak on the bottom half of each roll. Top with caramelized onions, grilled mushrooms, and a slice of provolone cheese. - Melt the Cheese:
Place the assembled sandwiches under the broiler for about 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. - Serve:
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve hot. Enjoy!
