Description

French Toast Waffles with Peach Sauce combine the crispy, golden texture of waffles with the sweet, comforting flavors of French toast. Topped with a homemade peach sauce, this breakfast or brunch treat is perfect for anyone craving a little extra sweetness to start the day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 slices of thick bread (preferably day-old or slightly stale)
  • Butter, for greasing the waffle iron
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen peaches, diced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions and lightly grease it with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are coated. Place the dipped bread into the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the waffle iron’s instructions, typically 3-5 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. Remove and set aside.
  4. While the waffles cook, prepare the peach sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine the diced peaches, sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the peaches break down and the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. If you’d like a thicker sauce, dissolve the cornstarch in 1 tablespoon of water and stir it into the peach mixture. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.
  6. Serve the French toast waffles warm, topped with the homemade peach sauce, maple syrup, and a dusting of powdered sugar, if desired.

Notes

  • For a different fruit topping, you can swap peaches with fresh berries, apples, or a mixed fruit compote.
  • If you prefer a spicier peach sauce, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the sauce while cooking.
  • To make this recipe even richer, consider adding a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the waffles.
