- 3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk)
- For Frying:
- Vegetable oil
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: Cook diced fruit with sugars, spices, and lemon juice until softened. Thicken with cornstarch mixture and cool.
- Make the Dough: Mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter, add buttermilk, and knead until smooth. Roll out and cut into circles.
- Assemble the Pies: Fill dough circles with cooled filling, fold, and seal edges.
- Fry the Pies: Fry in hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve: Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!
