Description

Fried Cheerios are a fun and crispy snack that will surprise you with how delicious they are! The savory coating gives the classic cereal an extra crunch and a unique twist, perfect for an easy snack or appetizer. You can customize them with your favorite seasonings for a snack that’s crunchy, salty, and totally addictive!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Cheerios cereal (original flavor)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley or additional seasoning

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Coating:
    • In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until well mixed.
    • In another bowl, pour the buttermilk (or regular milk).
  2. Coat the Cheerios:
    • Dip the Cheerios into the milk, ensuring they are fully coated. Then, dredge them in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure each Cheerio is well coated.
  3. Fry the Cheerios:
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Once the oil is hot, carefully add the coated Cheerios in small batches to the skillet. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Be sure not to overcrowd the pan to allow the Cheerios to fry evenly.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried Cheerios and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Serve:
    • Once all the Cheerios are fried and drained, sprinkle them with additional salt, or toss with your favorite seasonings.
    • Optionally, garnish with fresh chopped parsley for a pop of color. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Flavor Variations: You can customize the seasoning to your taste. Try adding cayenne pepper for a spicy kick or ranch seasoning for a zesty flavor.
  • Dipping Sauces: These fried Cheerios would pair wonderfully with dips like ranch, spicy mayo, or even a tangy barbecue sauce.
  • Storage: These are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in a toaster oven or on a baking sheet to regain their crunch.
