Description
Golden-fried crispy balls filled with creamy mac and cheese, perfect as a snack, appetizer, or party food.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups cooked macaroni and cheese, chilled
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine chilled macaroni and cheese with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Shape the mixture into 1.5-inch balls and place on a baking sheet. Freeze for at least 1 hour to firm up.
- Set up a breading station: place flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs in a third.
- Remove mac and cheese balls from freezer. Roll each ball in flour, then dip in eggs, and coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry balls in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
- Season with salt and pepper while still warm. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Freezing the balls before frying helps them hold their shape.
- Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
- Serve with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
