Description

Golden-fried crispy balls filled with creamy mac and cheese, perfect as a snack, appetizer, or party food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked macaroni and cheese, chilled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine chilled macaroni and cheese with shredded cheddar cheese.
  2. Shape the mixture into 1.5-inch balls and place on a baking sheet. Freeze for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  3. Set up a breading station: place flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs in a third.
  4. Remove mac and cheese balls from freezer. Roll each ball in flour, then dip in eggs, and coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry balls in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Season with salt and pepper while still warm. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Freezing the balls before frying helps them hold their shape.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  • Serve with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
