Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups of milk
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla
- 2 cups of flour
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 6 tablespoons of butter (melted)
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl, mix your milk, egg, vanilla, and melted butter together.
- Add in the salt, baking soda, and sugar.
- Slowly fold in the flour until the batter becomes smooth.
- Pour the batter mixture into a gallon-size Ziplock bag and set aside for a few minutes.
- Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan, making sure the oil is about half an inch deep.
- Turn the burner on high heat for about two minutes, then reduce to medium heat.
- Test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into the pan. If it begins to bubble around the edges, it’s ready. If not, increase the heat slightly until it is hot enough.
- Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the Ziplock bag and slowly drizzle the batter into 1 to 2 circles in the hot oil.
- Fry until the bottom half is golden brown, then gently flip them with a slotted metal spatula and cook the other side until golden brown.
- Place the cooked bites on paper towels to absorb excess grease, then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- Serve with whipped cream or fruit as toppings.
Notes
- Ensure the oil is at the right temperature to avoid undercooking or burning the funnel cakes.
- You can use a squeeze bottle if you don’t have a Ziplock bag to control the batter flow better.
