Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Prepare the dough:
In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add the warm water, mixing as you go, until a dough begins to form. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a clean towel and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size. -
Make the garlic butter:
While the dough is rising, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic to the butter and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside. -
Shape the flatbread:
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air and divide it into 2 equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle or oval shape on a floured surface, about 1/4 inch thick. -
Cook the flatbread:
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place one of the dough rounds in the hot skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown spots form on the bottom. Flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until both sides are cooked through and golden. Repeat with the second piece of dough. -
Add garlic butter:
Once the flatbreads are cooked, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture while they’re still hot. -
Garnish and serve:
Sprinkle fresh chopped parsley over the top of the garlic buttered flatbreads for a burst of color and freshness. Slice and serve immediately.
Notes
- For an extra crispy flatbread, you can also bake the flatbread in a hot oven at 475°F (245°C) for 4-6 minutes after brushing it with the garlic butter.
- You can add some grated parmesan cheese on top of the buttered flatbread for an extra cheesy touch.
- This recipe can be made ahead by storing the dough in the fridge after rising and cooking it the next day.
