Ingredients
-
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
-
1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
-
1 tsp sugar
-
1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
-
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 tbsp olive oil (for greasing)
-
Garlic Butter:
-
4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 tsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
-
¼ tsp salt
-
Instructions
-
Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy and bubbly.
-
Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter to the flour. Stir until the dough starts to come together, then knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.
-
Let the dough rise: Lightly grease a bowl with olive oil and place the dough in the bowl, turning it once to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
Shape the rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
Let the rolls rise again: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes, until puffed and nearly doubled in size.
-
Bake the rolls: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes or until they are golden brown on top.
-
Make garlic butter: While the rolls bake, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, and salt in a small bowl.
-
Brush with garlic butter: Once the rolls are done, remove them from the oven and immediately brush with the garlic butter mixture. Serve warm.
Notes
-
For a richer flavor, you can add a tablespoon of honey to the dough mixture.
-
If you prefer softer rolls, you can cover them with foil for the last few minutes of baking.
-
You can make the dough ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight. Just let it come to room temperature and rise before baking.
-
These rolls are great for dipping into soups or served alongside pasta and roasted meats.
