- 500g plain flour
- ½ tbsp dried yeast granules
- ½ tbsp salt
- ½ tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp bread improver
- 325ml water (room temperature)
- ½ tbsp olive oil
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- ⅓ cup chopped parsley
- ⅓ cup chopped basil
- ¼ cup chopped rosemary leaves
- 1 tbsp butter
- 200g grated Philly and tasty cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and bread improver. Add half the water and mix, gradually adding the remaining water until the ingredients form a ball.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer dough to a floured surface, add olive oil, and knead until smooth and elastic, adding extra flour if needed.
- First Rise: Return the dough to the bowl, cover with plastic wrap and a tea towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Bread: Once risen, punch down the dough, cut in half, and roll each half into a 50cm x 25cm rectangle. Spread ½ tbsp butter on each, sprinkle with crushed garlic, herbs, and cheese.
- Cut and Stack: Cut each rectangle into strips the height of your loaf tins. Stack strips on top of each other, then cut into squares the width of the tins. Grease or line loaf tins, stack squares sideways into the tins, cover, and let proof for 30 minutes.
- Bake the Bread: Preheat oven to 190°C. Remove plastic wrap and bake loaves for 55 minutes, until golden. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before serving warm.
