Ingredients

Scale

Naan Breads:

  • ¼ cup warm water
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp active dry yeast (or instant)
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¾ cup Greek or plain yogurt
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil (plus 2 tbsp extra for cooking)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups plain flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Garlic Butter Topping:

  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped

Instructions

  • For Naan Bread:
    • Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
    • Add milk, yogurt, oil, minced garlic, flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until the dough forms.
    • On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until smooth (3-5 minutes).
    • Lightly grease the mixing bowl, return dough, and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise at room temperature for about 1 hour, until doubled.
    • Divide dough into 10 equal pieces. Roll each into a ball, then roll each ball into a 6-inch oval, about ⅛-inch thick.
  • Cooking the Naan:
    • Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and grease with ½ tsp oil.
    • Place one naan on the skillet and cook until bubbles form (1-2 minutes). Brush the top with a little oil while cooking.
    • Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until golden spots appear.
    • Remove from skillet and wrap in a clean towel. Repeat with remaining dough, keeping naan wrapped in the towel.
  • For Garlic Butter Topping:
    • Mix melted butter and minced garlic. Brush each naan with garlic butter and sprinkle with fresh herbs.
  • Enjoy warm!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add herbs like oregano or thyme to the dough.
  • You can store the naan in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
