Description

This rich and indulgent German Chocolate Poke Cake starts with a moist chocolate cake base and is soaked with sweetened condensed milk and hot fudge before being topped with coconut pecan frosting, chopped pecans, and mini chocolate chips. It’s the ultimate chocolate lover’s dessert!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (German Chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or Devil’s Food)
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (11.75 ounce) jar hot fudge topping
  • 1 tub coconut pecan frosting
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat with a hand or stand mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth out the top.
  4. Bake on the middle rack for 30–38 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool completely in the pan.
  6. Using the end of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the top of the cooled cake.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix the sweetened condensed milk and hot fudge topping until smooth.
  8. Pour the chocolate sauce evenly over the cake, making sure it seeps into the holes. Use a spatula if needed to spread it evenly.
  9. Spread the coconut pecan frosting over the top of the cake.
  10. Sprinkle chopped pecans and mini chocolate chips over the frosting.
  11. Slice and serve!

Notes

  • For an extra decadent touch, chill the cake before serving.
  • You can substitute the frosting with homemade coconut pecan topping if preferred.
  • This cake stores well in the fridge for up to 5 days.
