Description

These Gingerbread Brownies are rich, dense, and chewy like a brownie, but with the warm, spicy flavors of gingerbread. Perfect for the holiday season or whenever you crave a cozy dessert!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks / 227 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1½ cups (300 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2½ cups (312.5 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • Confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal. Set aside.
  2. Make the Batter: In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and brown sugar. Stir until smooth. Mix in the eggs, molasses, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ground ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until no streaks of flour remain.
  3. Bake the Brownies: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is no longer jiggly. Tip: If using a 9×13-inch pan, reduce baking time to 25–30 minutes.
  4. Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, dust with confectioners’ sugar. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Room Temperature Eggs: Ensure eggs are at room temperature for a smoother batter and even baking.
  • Molasses Substitution: Use dark corn syrup or honey if molasses is unavailable, though the flavor will differ slightly.
  • Make Ahead: These brownies can be made a day ahead; they taste even better as the flavors meld.
