Description

Celebrate the holiday season with these delightful Gingerbread Tree Cookies! Soft and spiced to perfection, these cookies are fun to make and decorate with royal icing and sprinkles. Perfect for holiday gatherings, cookie exchanges, or simply enjoying with a warm drink!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Royal icing and sprinkles, for decorating

Instructions

  • Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add Molasses and Egg: Mix in the molasses and the egg until well combined.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Form the Dough: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Chill the Dough: Divide the dough into two equal parts, flatten each into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disk of dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  • Cut Out Cookies: Use tree-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the cookies and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake the Cookies: Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the edges are firm and slightly golden. Allow to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Decorate: Once cooled, decorate the cookies with royal icing and sprinkles as desired.

Notes

  • Ensure to chill the dough for the best results; this helps maintain the cookie shape during baking.
  • Feel free to get creative with the decorations!
