Ingredients
Scale
For the Donuts:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for greasing the donut pan)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp whole milk (or heavy cream)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
For the Glitter Topping:
- Edible glitter (or edible shimmer powder)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Donut Batter:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan with vegetable oil or cooking spray.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
- In a separate large bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fill the Donut Pan:
- Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each donut cavity about ¾ full. You can also use a piping bag or a plastic sandwich bag with the tip cut off for easier filling.
- Bake the Donuts:
- Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the Glaze:
- While the donuts are cooling, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl. Add more milk if you need to adjust the consistency—it should be thick but pourable.
- Glaze the Donuts:
- Once the donuts are fully cooled, dip the top of each donut into the glaze, ensuring an even coat. Let the excess glaze drip off and allow the glaze to set for a couple of minutes.
- Add the Glitter:
- Once the glaze has set slightly, sprinkle the donuts with edible glitter or shimmer powder. You can also add colorful sprinkles for extra flair.
- Allow the glitter to settle on the donuts for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve:
- Enjoy your Glitter Donuts as a fun and sparkling treat!
Notes
- Be sure to use edible glitter that is safe for consumption. You can find edible glitter and shimmer powder at specialty baking stores or online.
- These donuts are best eaten fresh, but you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- If you don’t have a donut pan, you can also make these as donut holes using a mini muffin pan or by simply frying the batter in oil for a different style!
