Description

This Glitter Popcorn is a fun and sparkly twist on your favorite snack! Coated with a sweet and buttery glaze and topped with edible glitter, it’s the perfect treat for celebrations, holidays, or whenever you want to add a little extra sparkle to your snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Edible glitter (for decoration, in any color you like)
  • Optional: colored sugar or sprinkles for extra flair

Instructions

  1. Pop the Popcorn:
    • Pop the popcorn using a popcorn maker or stovetop method. Make sure to remove any unpopped kernels. You’ll need about 10 cups of popped popcorn. Set aside in a large bowl.
  2. Make the Sweet Glaze:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Once melted, add the sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
    • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and allow it to cook for 3-4 minutes without stirring, until it thickens slightly.
    • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Be cautious as it may bubble up when the vanilla is added.
  3. Coat the Popcorn:
    • Immediately pour the sweet glaze over the popped popcorn. Gently stir with a spatula or wooden spoon to evenly coat the popcorn. Work quickly before the glaze starts to set.
  4. Add the Glitter:
    • Once the popcorn is coated with the glaze, sprinkle edible glitter or shimmer powder evenly over the popcorn. You can add as much or as little as you like, depending on how sparkly you want it!
    • Optionally, you can also add colored sugar or sprinkles for extra color and sparkle.
  5. Let the Popcorn Cool:
    • Spread the coated popcorn out on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet to cool and harden. The glaze will firm up as it cools.
  6. Serve:
    • Once the popcorn has cooled completely, it’s ready to serve! Enjoy your sparkly Glitter Popcorn as a fun snack for parties, movie nights, or special occasions.

Notes

  • Make sure to use edible glitter that is labeled as food-safe. You can find edible glitter at specialty baking stores or online.
  • For an extra festive touch, you can mix different colors of glitter, sugar, or sprinkles to match your theme or celebration.
  • If you want a more caramelized flavor, you can cook the glaze for an additional 1-2 minutes until it thickens more and becomes golden in color.
