These gooey chocolate chip cookie bars are soft, chewy, and loaded with melty chocolate chips. They’re the perfect dessert for any occasion and easy to make in one pan.

- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans work well)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
- Spread the cookie dough evenly in the prepared baking pan. Press it down gently with a spatula.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs. The center should still be soft.
- Let the bars cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 15 minutes, then cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- For extra gooeyness, underbake the bars slightly and let them cool in the pan before cutting.
- If you prefer a thicker texture, you can bake these in an 8×8-inch pan, but increase the baking time by 5–10 minutes.
- Try using a mix of milk and dark chocolate chips for added flavor depth.
